Door-to-Door Outreach

The Burmese Workers Program organizes Door-to-Door Outreach Campaign to reach out a large population of Burmese workers at their door steps. We distribute information kits which include flyers and information sheets about basic labor rights, the US federal and States Labor Laws, AFL-CIO and Working America campaign information, and workshop invitations. We are also gathering work relative information and conducting Questionnaires for a research project.


Burmese Labor Workshop Series II

Burmese Workers Program will held a summer section Labor Workshop Series II and professor, lawyer and Union leaders will discuss on labor rights and responsibilities that every workers should know of.

Programs Detail:-

June 28th (Saturday) From 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm

Mr.Patrick L. Proctor from Eilbacher Fletcher, LLP will discuss on Right to Wages and Overtime Pay, Right to Medical Leave and Accommodations for Disabilities, Right to Compensation for On-The-Job Injuries and Illnesses, Right to Unemployment Compensation, and Rights to Vested Retirement and Insurance Benefits. The workshop of the day will be concluded with interactive discussion of labor glossary and must-known Labor concepts.


July 12th (Saturday) From 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm

Mr.Patrick L. Proctor from Eilbacher Fletcher, LLP will continue the second part of the labor law discussion focusing on discuss on Right to be Free from Prohibited Forms of Discrimination, Right to Unemployment Compensation, and Rights to Engage in Concerted Activity. Mr. Tom Lewandowski, president of Northeast Central Labor Council will discuss on solidarity, value of democracy at workplace, and American Labor movement following the preparation exercises such as filling out job application forms and practicing job interviews.


July 26th (Saturday) From 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm

Mr. Joseph A. Langmeyer, business manager of the International Electrical Brotherhood Workers, will present Indiana Labor Market, Labor and Politics, Political transaction and role of workers, and effect of globalization. Ye Win Latt will conclude the workshop with a brief discussion on usage of Credit Cards and Banking system.


August 2nd (Saturday) From 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm

Professor Mark A. Crouch, Associate Professor, Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW), will lead case studies about the discrimination based on race, color, sex, religion, national origin and disability at workplace. At the second part of the workshop, Ms. Min Min Htwe Nge will present Immigrant Labor Market and situation of Burmese workers in Fort Wayne.
